It’s a little late on a cold rainy evening in early fall. I’m not too happy with the weather situation. First day with a sweater and socks. Insert big teardrops.
What did I do for myself to make me smile and get me through the day? I made some plans with people that make me laugh and bring me joy. It was my niece’s 7th birthday and I spent a few hours with some carefree 1st graders. How can that not make you smile?
Maybe you are surrounded by small children all the time and they’re not quite that amusing. Perhaps it’s adult interaction that you are craving. When you need a break and a laugh or smile, who’s on speed dial? What or who brings you joy?
Make a list of ten people, places or things that make you smile. Seinfeld reruns, an old movie, that one certain friend that just cracks you up. Make a note to self and add it to you self care kit. When you are feeling down and out call that friend, pop in that movie or spend a few minutes with Jerry, Elaine and the gang (those reruns are on 24/7). A little laughter can get you back on track.
Don’t just save the laughter for when you are feeling blue. Simple self-care is all about doing little things each day to replenish you mind, body and spirit. And laughter is the best medicine.

I love this tip! Yes, I’ll put in a funny movie or TV show to get me out of a grumpy or down mood. The TV show Psych cracks me up! Guaranteed laugh.
