It’s Day #4 of Simple Self-Care tips. Thanks for following along.
So..self-care. What is it good for? Absolutely everything! Say it again! (You got the “War” song tune in your head for that right?)
Why is it important to take care of ourselves? Women are supposed to be strong and invincible and multi-tasking queens and never rest or ask for help. Right? Wrong sister! We can only pull that off for so long without hitting bottom. And by “bottom” I mean, snapping at those you are supposed to be helping, letting your own health go until you are forced to take a rest, making mistakes (costly or just inconvenient), not being too fun to be around, etc., etc. You get the idea.
“If it is a woman’s function to give, then she must be replenished too.” ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh ~ “A Gift from the Sea”
Taking time for your own personal replenishment is not selfish. It is necessary! Without it, you are no good to anyone, especially to yourself.
You have to replenish your mind, body and soul. Ideally, you do this in small, consistent ways daily or weekly or monthly and don’t wait until you crash and burn. That’s why it is so important to build your personal self-care practice.
As you are building, I’ve shared some quick ways you can replenish in a pinch. First, start where you are and just breathe. Laughing and/or crying are both excellent tools for relieving pressure, stress and getting a bit of perspective and focus.
Today’s simple step is music! Who doesn’t have a tune that takes them back to a special place, makes them smile or is their guilty sing along pleasure? Or maybe you need something quiet to relax and unwind. You can have “go to” songs for every replenishing occasion.
Here’s a little challenge. Make a list of five (5) “go to” tunes. Add them to your iPhone, iPod or i-whatever you are using. When you need a little replenishing just press play and go where the music takes you!
